The first edition of AUFWIND appeared in December 1988. It had a simple lay-out, was black and white only, and was issued by Kai Erdmann who was also editor in chief.
Economically, it was no success. To keep AUFWIND alive, Kai had to sell it to a publisher in Nürnberg. However, this publisher let the magazine die a slow death. Surprised by this, active F3B and F3K pilot Host Kropka decided in 1994 to revive his beloved model sport magazine. Kai remained editor for a while, but had to step down because of his career.
In 1996, Philipp Gardemin joined the team and started to take over as editor more and more. Today, he's still editor in chief of AUFWIND, along with his job as editor of a magazine for the pet industry.
